      Celebration of Life
"Dogs leave their pawprints across our hearts,
       and we are forever changed."

With sadness we said goodbye

to this KPETS dog.

Casey - 14 years old -beloved companion of Cindy Wilson

"He was 14 and worked as a therapy dog for 13 years.  He was THE BEST DOG EVER - he was just so different and so special. It was a privilege and honor to be loved by Casey! His therapy dog work was phenomenal. He was such a fabulous little man from day one of our lives together. We had such a special bond. He was so much fun to train and compete with. I will miss him ALWAYS!"

               Thank You for Your Service!!
"It is with a very sad heart and tear filled eyes, that I have to let you know that Brody will be visiting his friends at Brethren Village for the last time and then will be finished with KPETS.  We just found out that he has cancer and aren't sure how much time he has left."
                                                               - Ann D'Alessandro-Zuck

We would like to thank Brody and Ann for all that they did for KPETS and the community in which they served!  Brody will be missed by all his friends at Brethern Village.

                   Congratulations to Laurie Walters!!!

Laurie recently completed training to become an evaluator for KPETS.  Laurie with her Chinese Crested Powder Puff, Dizzy, has been a KPETS volunteer in Westminster, Maryland since 2011.  September of 2013 she registered her English Springer Spaniel Puck. In the Spotlight...
Our Summer Intern, Kerriann Matheson

Kerriann is a summer intern from the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design in Lancaster, PA.  She is a senior majoring in graphic design. Her studies for the past 3 years have included advertising (magazine ads, billboards, web banners) along with motion graphics, website designs and logo designs. She                                        enjoys taking photos, going camping with her family

and playing with her dog, Harley.

Kerriann is currently working on designing the 2015 KPETS Kalendar.

We are thankful to have her with us!

KPETS canine Barney Fife , is the official mascot of the  Ephrata's Veterans Plaza & Winters Leadership Memorial project!!  Barney with his owner Bill Buckingham attended a fundraiser August 3 for the memorial. Barney will be back again next month for anyone who missed him!

Major Dick Winters - who commanded Easy Company when troops with the 101st Airborne Division parachuted into Normandy on D-Day, and whose exploits were featured in the book and HBO series "Band of Brothers" - was born in Ephrata.

Utz Summer Bash Thank You!
Thank you so much to Donna Gomer and Cullen, Donna Gomer and Sailor, Patti Kuhn and Stormy, Jerry Hottinger and Misty, Leigh Waite and Nellie, and Leigh Waite and Ivy Mae, Pam Miller and Shiloh, Tom Miller and Sadie!  These teams came out, braved the crowd, sat and did an awesome job representing KPETS at the first ever Utz Summer Bash.   There were tons, and I mean tons of kids who came out to this event and showered our pups with love!    Donna and Leigh brought two dogs and crated one while they worked the other, as this event was so well attended we definitely needed the extra dogs.  There were plenty of smiles from all the kids as they sat with the dogs, did tricks with them, read to them, and even talked about pet care.  As I write this Meeko is sound asleep after a hard days work, as I am sure all your pups are!

Thanks again to all who attended and helped make this event a huge success!  We sure did get the word out in Hanover about KPETS!

                                                                   -Wendi and Meeko

Reading with Jean-Luc

Library helpers Julia and Claire give Jean-Luc some lovin' prior to his reading duties at Nottingham Elementary School in Oxford, PA.  For five years Jean-Luc has had the pleasure of hearing stories read to him by selected 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders.  In this reading program, directed by librarian Kristina Johns, every school year he works with six students, three each week.  Each student reads to Jean-Luc for 20 minutes and then has 10 minutes to play with him.  Who enjoys this most?  It's hard to tell!

Additional teams for this program would be very much appreciated.

Dog Days of Summer at the Lititz Farmers' Market

"Aili and I went out to the Dog Days of Summer at the Lititz farmers market.  We met and talked to a lot of people. Aili showed off what it means to be a therapy dog by being well behaved, getti
ng lots of pettting, and doing a few tricks. We entered her in the dog show, tricks catagory and she won second place for her routine of weaving through my legs and doing a small bow. We had our picture taken for the Lititz record and were interviewed about KPETS. We put our best Paw forward for KPETS today and I couldn't be more proud of how well Aili behaved for being outside in the heat for three hours!"

Fun was had by all at the Juniper Village Dog Show. Sheree Dietz organized the event which residents look forward to every year.  In fact grandchildren come to visit just to see the show with their grandparents!

Twelve teams participated and after a round of introductions and trick performing by our dogs, they were dressed up and had a fun doggie costume parade.
