      Celebration of Life
"Dogs leave their pawprints across our hearts,
       and we are forever changed."

          With sadness we said goodbye

to this KPETS dog.

Lucy - 12 years old - June 2014 - beloved companion of Debbie Ruoff

"Lucy was a devoted and faithful lifelong companion.  She

loved "going to work" with a smile on her face and a wag

in her tail. Her most precious reward was to bring joy and happiness to her loving family and all the kids who loved to

sit by her side and read to her at the library. She will be greatly missed by all."

                     Volunteer Recognition

                         In the Spotlight...
                                Joni Soost

Joni was one of the charter members of KPETS with her Golden Retriever, London.  She joined KPETS after 25 years raising Seeing Eye Puppies and working with the Puppy Power Seeing Eye 4-H Club.

Joni now enjoys meeting and working with our prospective teams as an on-site evaluator  and workshop leader for KPETS . But she shared what she looks forward to every week is her Tuesday afternoon visits to Homestead Village with one of her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Gilly or Annie.

(I've been told that the residents look forward to the visits too!)

They can also be found visiting at Oak Leaf Manor Landisville.

Gilly and Annie are well known in Lancaster City.  If you walk by St. James Episcopal Church you might hear the people waiting in line for breakfast say,"Here come the girls," as Joni and her cavaliers stop and greet everyone on their daily walk!

Joni, we thank you for all you have done and continue to do for KPETS and appreciate all that you and your dogs have given to the people of Lancaster!  You have Touched the Lives and Warmed the Hearts of so many!

The world is hugged by the faithful arms of volunteers.~Terri Guillemets
THANK YOU for all that you do!

Pam with Sophie

Honorary Chairman of Comfort, Companionship, and Lovability!

by Pam Dochter
KPETS Volunteer

When I joined the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1463 in Lititz Pa in 2010, I began to take Sophie with me to spend time with the veterans.  We attended many events:  Memorial Day celebrations, Picnics for veterans at Coatesville VA hospital, Christmas visitations with area veterans in nursing homes, Fourth of July parades, Pa Wounded Warriors walks, and many fundraising events for veterans.
In June of 2012, the Auxiliary honored Sophie with a pin and an official title of Advocate to the Auxiliary.  An advocate is anyone who becomes and ally of the auxiliary.  Everyone has adopted her and she can sometimes be found at the VFW post just hanging out.
Most recently, June of 2014, Sophie was honored by the auxiliary as the honorary chairman of comfort, companionship and lovability.  Her plaque reads " Sophie you serve as the face and character of the Ladies Aux. to Lititz Springs VFW Post 1463 promoting comfort, companionship and love to veterans in area nursing homes and hospitals.
Sophie especially enjoys marching in the Lititz Fourth of July Parade!

KPETS' Dogs Make a Difference!!

This is MacGillycuddy and Lisa at the Salunga House. Gilly visits with Lisa every second Tuesday of the month. Lisa is working to get the balls out of the box to help improve her ability to use her hands.  She than throws the balls to Gilly. She also gives Gilly two treats a visit by moving the treats with her finger.

Thank you to our teams in
S.E. PA and Delaware!

A Thank You to the York Teams
from Harriet Hombach!

THANKS is not enough for all the wonderful KPETS teams that helped at York Academy School for the students to read to all their wonderful furry kids.

Attending were: Christine & Jagr;  Jean & Freddie;  Mary Anne & Darby;  Janelle & Buoy;  Chey & Surf;  Janet & Cassie;  Rose & Katieanne;  Jill & Enzo;  Scott and Kirsten & Zulu;  Fran & Okra;  and my two boys,  Mattoon & Corky.

I got nothing but positive feed back of how calm and gentle all the dogs were. The students were amazing in their being well behaved and so gentle in touching our pets. It was a definite win-win for everyone.
